Ethics, Morality, and IP Law in China: How Did We Get Here?

Piracy at the register and online counterfeiting in China are among the biggest IP challenges for companies worldwide. Many believe these problems are caused by the lack of the Rule of Law in China, while others—particularly in China itself—believe the root cause is the lack of morals and ethics in society. This presentation will examine these question through the prism of Chinese history and culture, drawing comparisons with modern-day Naples (Italy—not Florida), among other things. It will also suggest opportunities for companies to do their part in promoting reforms in China.
