When I became President of the International Trademark Association in January, starting a blog was near the top of my list. I wanted a dynamic way to engage with INTA members and others in the IP community to share the latest in the world of trademark developments and to hear what’s on your mind too.
This year, I look forward to sharing my experiences and observations with you as I meet with national governments, lead member delegations, and attend INTA events around the globe. Just a year ago, an INTA visit to Myanmar would not have been possible, and yet this past November we became the first IP association to travel there to advise the government on developing the country’s first trademark law.

This experience underscored the constant change in this dynamic area of the law, whether accession to the Madrid Protocol in Latin America, new enforcement and anticounterfeiting initiatives in Canada, potentially thousands of new gTLDs or powerful brands in China, India and Korea seeking new international markets.
INTA is well-positioned to make important contributions to these developments and many others, and I will be sharing with you highlights of the excellent work our dedicated members undertake through INTA Board, Committees and staff.
I also look forward to updating you on our progress in trademark law and practice publications, education and policy developments. And with help from my fellow bloggers, we will keep you up-to-date on the latest INTA programs and events, including our Annual Meeting taking place in Dallas, Texas this May.
Today marks an exciting new phase in INTA’s online presence and engagement with members and the wider trademark community. Please join me in the conversation!
