The INTA Board of Directors has selected Etienne Sanz de Acedo as the Association’s new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Sanz de Acedo comes to INTA from the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), where he has been serving as Head of the Communications Service. As the first European to lead INTA’s staff, Etienne truly embodies the Association’s values and multicultural spirit.
Born in Spain, Mr. Sanz de Acedo is a dynamic leader who was selected after a highly competitive and rigorous 18-month global executive talent search that received overwhelming support and involvement from the Board.
In his leadership role at OHIM, Mr. Sanz de Acedo was integral in navigating a complex legislative environment and establishing new competencies that fostered international cooperation. As a member of the organization’s Cabinet, he oversaw extensive global consultation with influential multinational IP nongovernmental organizations and government officials, which ultimately led to the adoption and approval of OHIM’s new strategic vision. In addition, as an associate professor of IP law at Alicante University and a former visiting professor of strategic marketing at the Estonian Business School and FUNDESEM Business School, Mr. Sanz de Acedo is devoted to educating future leaders of our industry and has a passion for continued learning, one of INTA’s key initiatives.
“Over the many years I’ve worked with the trademark community, I have experienced firsthand INTA’s influence in shaping the policies that protect brand innovation and support the economic success and viability of its members,” said Mr. Sanz de Acedo. “During my tenure, I will continue INTA’s legacy of focusing on our members, and I look forward to strengthening the value that brands bring to consumer choice, innovation and competition, and ensuring those brands are protected.”
Mr. Sanz de Acedo will be formally introduced at this year’s Annual Meeting in May in Dallas, Texas, USA. He will assume responsibilities as CEO in June, following the retirement of Executive Director Alan Drewsen. Mr. Sanz de Acedo will relocate from Spain so that he may serve INTA from our global headquarters in New York.
Please join us in welcoming Etienne to INTA!
