Toe Su Aung is General Counsel, Anti-Illicit Trade at BATMark Limited, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco, based in London, where she was previously Head of Intellectual Property. The Anti-Illicit Trade unit within BATMark is a business unit that deals with all aspects of fighting illicit trade, including governance, advocacy, regulatory and commercial issues.
Ms. Aung has been at BATMark since June 1999, when British American Tobacco merged with Rothmans International. She has a Bachelor of Law degree from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Law from the University of London. She is a qualified solicitor in both the UK and Singapore and a trained mediator who is passionate about alternative methods of resolving disputes. She practiced Intellectual Property law at the Singapore law firm of Drew and Napier prior to joining Rothmans International in October 1992.
As Chair of the Board of INTA, Ms. Aung is also Chair of the Executive Committee. In prior years, she served on the Planning Committee was the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Board. She was previously Chair of the Anticounterfeiting and Enforcement Committee of INTA. Ms. Aung is also active in other associations in the counterfeiting area including ICC BASCAP and has spoken on counterfeiting at the Global Congress Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy and other international fora. BATMark has also won awards in anticounterfeiting and the award for best in-house IP team in 2006 at the Brand Management Forum conference organized by Managing Intellectual Property.
In her spare time, Ms. Aung enjoys theatre, contemporary dance, opera, Body Combat, spinning, hiking in the English countryside, and cooking her native Japanese and Burmese dishes.
