Anticounterfeiting Initiatives: What Every Canadian Trademark Lawyer Needs to Know

Sign up today for an INTA Roundtable and hear a current overview of the counterfeit landscape in Canada.

Wednesday, November 27, 2013
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Toronto, Canada

Counterfeiting remains a serious and growing issue in Canada. Earlier this year, the introduction of Bill C-56, the Combating Counterfeit Products Act, brought anticounterfeiting to the forefront of the Canadian trademark legal community and the Canadian public in general. The Bill has now been reintroduced as C-8 and has just completed second reading and has been referred to Committee in the House of Commons. With these changes being contemplated, a primer in what Canadian trademark lawyers can do to assist manufacturers, consumers, and retailers to combat counterfeit goods is timely. A leading practitioner in the area will provide a current overview of the counterfeit landscape, a discussion of recent cases, and available remedies (both civil and criminal).
