Recent IPONZ cases, examination practice and implementation of Madrid have revealed many issues for New Zealand practitioners to bear in mind.  In these joint INTA/IPONZ Roundtables, those attending will have the benefit of discussion with Simon Gallagher, Trade Marks Manager and Steffen Gazley, Principal Trade Mark Examiner at IPONZ, to shed light on a range of topics, including:

  • Quick overview of TMs and IPONZ objectives including brief economic analysis of trade marks
  • Examination – approach to s 25, what to look out for when filing evidence, quick tips on filing international applications on behalf of NZ business, the role of internet usage, what the Maori Advisory Committee are finding
  • Hearings – some key areas to think about
  • Extensions of time
  • Sandwich marks, and special circumstances justifying registration after Anchor
