Recent IP Australia decisions, examination practice and implementation of Raising the Bar have revealed many issues for Australian practitioners to bear in mind. 

In these joint INTA/IP Australia Roundtables, those attending will have the benefit of discussion with and insight from:

  • Sidney Gray, Assistant Director of Trade Marks and Designs at IP Australia; and
  • Heath Wilson, Hearing Officer of Trade Marks and Designs at IP Australia,

who will shed light on a range of topics, including:

  • Quick overview of trade marks and the objectives of IP Australia
  • Examination – approach of IP Australia to section 41-44 of the Australian Trade Marks Act; practical tips for responding to examiner’s reports, preparing submissions and evidentiary requirements for submitting evidence
  • Hearings – practical tips for preparing evidence and submissions in trade mark oppositions
  • Extensions of time
  • Notable changes/effects post Raising the Bar
  • Notable Office Decisions
