Advancement of Trademark Law
David Bernstein (Debevoise & Plimpton—New York, NY, USA) was a key contributor to INTA’s efforts to reform U.S. federal law on trademark dilution, negotiating with other associations and interested coalitions as INTA’s proposed bill was passed by the House of Representatives and progressed in the Senate.
Peter Giddens (Lang Michener—Toronto, Ontario, Canada) served as the principal drafter of INTA’s response to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office’s request for comments on proposed revisions to Canada’s trademark law.
Advancement of Committee or Subcommittee Objectives
Karen Butcher (Morgan, Lewis & Bockius—Washington, DC, USA) served as chair of the Information Resources Committee’s Trade Dress Image Library Subcommittee, revitalizing INTA’s Trade Dress Image Library by expanding the library to include summaries from Brazil, Canada and New Zealand.
Susan Montgomery (Foley Hoag—Boston, Massachusetts, USA) served as chair of the Emerging Issues Committee’s Use-Based Systems Subcommittee, which produced an outstanding report on whether INTA should push for harmonization between user-based systems and first-to-file systems.
Advancement of the Association
Michael Manson (Smart & Biggar—Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) served on the Membership Committee’s Academic Subcommittee that played an instrumental role in developing academic membership categories and in planning INTA’s first Learned Professor Symposium in January 2005.
Dawn Osborne (Rouse & Co. International—London, UK) served as chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee’s Programs Subcommittee, leading the effort to organize ADR around the world.
