Volunteer Service Awards




The five categories of Volunteer Service Awards recognize individuals and organizations who provide exemplary volunteer service to INTA. Nominations will reopen in 2018.


Category 1
Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law


Awarded to one or more individuals whose participation and efforts during the year have led to the advancement of substantive trademark law and practice.



Category 2
Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Committee or Subcommittee Objectives


Awarded to one or more committee members whose display of initiative and demonstration of creative thinking during the year helped to significantly advance a committee or subcommittee's objectives.



Category 3
Volunteer Service Award for Advancement of the Association


Awarded to one or more individuals whose participation, efforts, and progressive thinking during the year have advanced the strategic objectives of INTA (Strategic Plan 2014-2017).


Category 4
Volunteer Service Award for Pro Bono Services Provided by Individuals


Awarded to one or more individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to providing trademark and related intellectual property pro bono legal services during the year in support of (a) persons of limited means or other disadvantaged persons; (b) charitable, religious, civic, community, and educational organizations that address the needs of persons of limited means or (c) government or judicial organizations.



Category 5
Volunteer Service Award for Pro Bono Services Provided by Organizations


Awarded to one or more organizations that have demonstrated a significant commitment to developing or expanding programs for providing trademark and related intellectual property pro bono legal services during the year in support of (a) persons of limited means or other disadvantaged persons; (b) charitable, religious, civic, community, and educational organizations that address the needs of persons of limited means, or (c) government or judicial organizations.

  • Officers
  • Counsel
  • Board of Directors
  • Past Presidents and Past Counsel
  • Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs
  • Staff
Who’s eligible to be nominated?

Individuals eligible for Categories 1 through 4 of the Volunteer Service Awards are:
  • Subcommittee Chairs
  • Committee members
  • Non-committee volunteers, such as speakers at INTA programs and authors of INTA publications. 
Eligibile nominees for Category 5, as described above, are INTA member organizations rather than individuals.

Who decides on the Volunteer Service Award recipients?

The Officers will evaluate the nominations and select the award recipients, who will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony at the INTA Leadership Meeting.
