Opening Ceremonies and Keynote Address
The INTA trademark community will assemble at the official opening of the 128th Annual Meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2006. Commissioner
Gary B. Bettman of the National Hockey League will give the keynote address at the opening ceremonies. Mr. Bettman, who brings years of experience in sports management to his position with the National Hockey League, will discuss issues relating to development and protection of internationally known sports league brands.
Prior to the Keynote Address, INTA’s 2006 President Paul W. Reidl will share his vision for the Association following brief remarks by the Annual Meeting Project Team Chairs Kimbley Muller and Cynthia Rowden, and INTA Executive Director Alan C. Drewsen.
Sessions and Industry Breakouts
Amid a broad range of educational programs, the special theme of “Cross-Border Trademark Issues” will be highlighted. This theme touches on the myriad international trademark issues in the major industries and the importance of protection and enforcement around the world.
The meeting also offers a full complement of breakout sessions relating to the following industries: food and restaurants, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, travel and hotel, apparel and footwear, cosmetic, fragrance and personal care, and automotive, petroleum and chemical.
We will offer the always popular Annual Review of U.S. Federal Case Law and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Developments session, as well as the Annual Review of International Case Law session. The meeting will also include practical sessions on geographical indications, the Madrid Protocol, ethics and much more.
Be sure to attend the special two-part litigation program, “MAXXXIMUM EXPOSURE: Moonshine, Major League and Preliminary Injunction Madness,” which will be held on Monday and Tuesday mornings. You’ll get a real-life look at a preliminary injunction argument through a mock case presented by two lawyers and a former judge of the U.S. District Court. See how the litigators argue the preliminary injunction motion, and find out their strategies on handling the matter and the rationale for the judge’s decision.
Workshops
A variety of workshops provide an unparalleled opportunity to polish your skills in conducting successful IP audits, using the Internet in many aspects of your work, preparing expert witnesses, protecting and enforcing trademarks, handling transactional issues and prevailing on preliminary injunctions, motions and depositions.
There is no additional fee to attend these workshops; however, there is a limited seating capacity of 150 people. Therefore, we urge you to arrive at the workshops promptly.
Table Topics
The Annual Meeting offers 155 moderated discussions for groups of ten people on a wide variety of timely and important issues. Network with your colleagues and enjoy breakfast or lunch in the process.
An additional registration fee of $40 per person, per Table Topic is required to cover food and beverage costs, and there is a limit of two Table Topics per person for the entire meeting. A full list of topics and moderators begins on page 15.
