Join the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the 2008 INTA/WIPO International Forum on Trademarks and Industrial Designs, a one-day, advanced-level conference that will venture beyond the border of trademarks into the world of industrial designs, on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel Brussels, in Brussels, Belgium.
At a time when the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks has proven to be a highly popular way to achieve cost effective, multi-country protection of trademarks, and the launching of a new phase of growth for the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs resulting from the entry of the European Community and the growing number of non-EU countries that are party to the Geneva Act, it is incumbent that IP professionals receive the most up-to-date and authoritative information available in order to provide their clients with the best IP protection possible.
Receive valuable guidance and practical strategies from respected WIPO experts on the Madrid and Hague systems as well as from prominent industry and law firm practitioners as they take an integrated look at these evolving intellectual property rights, including concerns unique to each and issues that arise when the two areas overlap.
Here is what you can expect at this conference: In the morning, a senior WIPO official will share insights into WIPO's current activities, discuss the status of the various international IP agreements and the ramifications for rights owners and practitioners. Focus will turn to designs from a brand owner's perspective. International experts will examine the filing options for global protection, as well as the enforcement of registered designs. (The recent ability to designate Registered Community Designs (RCD) under the Hague System, and the imminent adherence of the United States, makes this session particularly timely.)
Global trademark filing will be the focus of the afternoon panels, as the experts examine the recent changes to the Madrid Agreement and the repeal of the Safeguard Clause. Are dependency and Central Attack the next to go? The final session will be interactive, with a panel of experienced outside and in-house counsel providing practical tips for global filing, particularly under the Madrid System.
