Sessions and Industry Breakouts
Location: WSCTC, Level 6

Participate in a conference filled with sessions on timely issues affecting the IP world. This meeting will turn the spotlight on the increasingly important social and environmental issues that have changed how marketers and agencies reach consumers. With higher profile news stories highlighting climate change and health issues, corporations and consumers are being presented with new choices in the exercise of their purchasing power. Consumers now have greater opportunities to select products that are organic, sustainable and fair trade; products whose impact reduces the effect on the environment, in both their use and their manufacture; and products made by companies that give part of their profits to charities.

Companies now have the task of educating consumers about these choices and the benefits of choosing environmentally friendly products, while making sure their products live up to these new standards and are marketed correctly. A selection of educational sessions will shed light on how brands and trademarks are affected by this new trend and how the trend might affect IP lawyers and their everyday practice. This trend, which is not likely to be short lived, has begun to change the way brands are used and trusted by consumers.

The educational component of this meeting is designed to focus on a wide variety of trademark law and related issues that you will not want to miss. The schedule each day is packed with interactive workshops, informative industry breakouts and exciting educational sessions that will bring you up-to-date on hot topics and regional issues. On Monday, CM01 — Brands and the Socially Concerned Consumer will epitomize the topical theme and enlighten IP professionals on essential social and environmental issues. On Tuesday, CT03 — BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) — Looking to the Future of Protection, Enforcement and Exploitation will explore issues in some of the fastest growing countries in the world. On Wednesday morning, the ever-popular CW01 — Annual Review of U.S. Federal Case Law and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Developments will condense a year’s worth of major case law into 75 minutes.

The cross-discipline programming focuses on a variety of topics, including worldwide Customs law enforcement mechanisms, anticounterfeiting issues and updates, trademark clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, opinion letter drafting, trademark surveys, international trademark filing and the securitization and collateralization of brands. Additionally, similar to last year, a series of Regional Update sessions for Africa, China, the European Union, the Middle East, Latin America, and East and South East Asia replace the previous Annual Review of International Case Law session.

Also scheduled is a full complement of Industry Breakout Sessions containing a cross-discipline focus on regulatory and trademark issues relating to the sports and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods, Internet, consumer goods and retail services industries.

Seats at the Sessions and Industry Breakouts fill up quickly and attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to arrive early.

Educational sessions are eligible for CLE credits and CPD points.

The CLE booth will be open Monday and Tuesday, 10:00 a.m.
1:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. 1:15 p.m.

Workshops

An assortment of workshops on practical, substantive issues will provide valuable insights and an unparalleled opportunity to polish your skills. Other Workshop topics include packaging and product design issues, international trademark filing tips, market evolution and brand collision, and updates on the Madrid Protocol.
