EXPERIENCE-SHARING PANEL DISCUSSION
A panel of veteran trademark counsel, along with communications and
government relations experts, will discuss their experiences in handling
complex multinational disputes and explore the strategic, tactical and
financial challenges of organizing, managing and resolving multinational
litigation, as well as the rationale for various approaches. The
discussion will be prompted by probative questions involving scenarios:
(i) Where plaintiff and defendant are the same, but strength of the case
varies by jurisdiction; (ii) Where the trademark owner is global but
local distributors or licenses are allowed to enforce locally; and
(iii) Where a house mark is infringed in many jurisdictions by different
parties. Issues considered will include logistics, substance and
strategy,public communications and education, and government relations.
