Walking with Buddha

Walking with Buddha in Ngong Ping 360 is an immersive, multimedia attraction allowing visitors to follow the life of Siddhartha Gautama - the man who became Buddha - and his path to enlightenment.

The story begins with a unique Bodhi Tree experience in the courtyard. Through the mist and incense, the voice of the Bodhi Tree introduces the story of a man who asked himself "Who am I and why am I here?" This is the story of how a man named Siddhartha became Buddha.

Outdoor Big Buddha Statue

Tian Tan Buddha statue, informally known as the Big Buddha, was erected in 1993. It is the world's largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha, with 21 meter/72 feet high. Facing north to look over the Chinese people, this majestic bronze Buddha draws pilgrims from all over Asia.

Located opposite the statue, the Po Lin Monastery is one of Hong Kong’s most important Buddhist sanctums and has been dubbed “the Buddhist World in the South”. The brightly painted red, orange and gold Po Lin Monastery up on Lantau's mountainous central spine is the island's most famous attraction and worth a visit due to its colourful praying hall.

Wisdom Path

Wisdom Path - traces a series of 38 wooden steles (upright monuments) containing verses from the centuries-old Heart Sutra; one of the world’s best-known prayers revered by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists alike. These steles display the Chinese version of the prayer, based on the calligraphy of famous contemporary scholar Professor Jao Tsung-I, and are arranged in a pattern, which represents infinity. We start with taking a look around how the Chinese elite of Hong Kong lived during the 19th century with a visit to Tai Fu Tai, an opulent residence built in the fourth year of the reign of Tongzhi (1865) of the Qing dynasty. The owner was Man Chung-Luen, a scholar who was bestowed with the title Tai Fu (‘Mandarin’) by the Qing Emperor. Man’s ancestors settled in San Tin sometime during the 15th century.

The building is considered to be one of the most beautifully embellished traditional Chinese buildings in Hong Kong. It is particularly renowned for its fine architectural decorations, such as the lavish plaster moldings and auspicious Chinese woodcarvings adorning its regal interior.

Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall

To continue, we visit one of the largest ancestral halls in Hong Kong, Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall. The building was built in 1525 to honor the founding ancestor, Tang Chung Ling. Since then, it has been the main ancestral hall of the Lung Yeuk Tau lineage.
The hall is now declared a monument in Hong Kong. It is decorated with fine wood carvings, polychrome plaster moldings, ceramic sculptures and murals of auspicious Chinese motifs, showing the fine crafts of the olden days.

Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree

Hong Kong can make your wished come true: meet the Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree where you can make your wish. In the past, whenever there was a festival, villagers would throw jog paper into these two trees and make wishes. The higher the branch the joss paper landed on, the more likely it was the wish would come true. People from all over Hong Kong still come her in their droves to make wishes during festivals.

Man Mo Temple & Tai Po Market

We conclude this excursion with visit to Tai Po Market, a lively village market in the heart of the New Territories village Tai Po. This is followed by an exploration of the Man Mo Temple.
