IP Office Workshop: Working Toward the 21st Century IP Office

(Exclusive to IP Office Representatives)


IP office officials are invited to join the annual, all-day workshop developed by IP office representatives exclusively for IP offices around the world. The workshop is coordinated by the National Institute for the Defense of Competition, Intellectual Property Protection (INDECOPI Peru), IP Australia, and the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property. The workshop will feature an open session to all Annual Meeting registrants and then several closed-door sessions for IP office registrants. This full day of programming is an excellent opportunity for registrants from your office to benchmark with other offices, network, and learn.

Trademarks in Relation to Other IP Rights

During this session the different speakers will look into the very confines of trademark protection. The complementarity, overlapping and conflicts between trademarks and other IP rights will be discussed, as well as the strategic decisions for registering (or not registering) certain rights and the other means of protection such as trade secrets. Attempts at misuses of trademarks either to prolong the protection of IP rights about to lapse or to try to monopolise cultural heritage or names of famous people or events, will also be addressed.
