A luncheon to discuss online counterfeiting issues was held today, March 26, 2014, at the Kerry Hotel in Beijing. The event was organized by the China Subcommittee of the Anticounterfeiting Committee (ACC). Over 100 INTA members attended and contributed to a lively discussion about how the sale of counterfeit products online is being addressed at the practical level in China. The attendance exceeded our expectations and demonstrated the importance of this issue. The event was held in conjunction with INTA's Asia Delegation Visit, and 2014 INTA President Mei-lan Stark, INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo, INTA Vice President Lucy Nichols and INTA External Relations Manager for Asia Pacific Seth Hays also participated in the luncheon discussion.
2014 INTA President Mei-lan Stark presents at the anticounterfeiting luncheon
Ms. Stark spoke to INTA’s China members about the Association’s activities around the globe and its increasing presence in China. ACC China Subcommittee Chair George Chan of Rouse chaired the luncheon, while China Subcommittee member Scott Palmer from Sheppard Mullin provided an overview of the China Subcommittee work and the challenges of enforcing against online counterfeiting. Victor Liu (NBA Properties) discussed the NBA’s efforts and experiences with combating online fakes. David Ho from Alibaba described the e-commerce business’s procedures for addressing counterfeits online.
The ACC aims to continue initiatives such as luncheons, roundtables and other events where INTA members can come together to examine online counterfeiting issues. A special thank you to Rouse who provided additional logistical support for the luncheon.
