Overview
December 15, 2021 | 10:00 am–12:15 pm EST
Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning how mediation is uniquely suited to help brand owners and their counsel efficiently and effectively resolve intellectual property (IP) disputes—in Latin America, the United States and around the world.
With global, national, and even local events bringing change moment-by-moment—and technology connecting the world more than ever—brand owners and their counsel face seemingly nonstop challenges and opportunities, and on a scale few, if any, could have anticipated. The need for brand owners to resolve disputes efficiently and effectively has only increased in importance. Fortunately, there is a centuries-old (and yet utterly modern) method uniquely suited to resolving IP disputes—mediation.
Please join us for this two-part program hosted by INTA’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee (through its Central & South America Subcommittee and North America Subcommittee) and Young Practitioners Committee. You’ll hear from experienced international and U.S. mediators how this longstanding method of dispute resolution can help brand owners and their counsel resolve disputes—and how technology will continue to play a key role. These complementary programs will also provide guidance to up-and-coming practitioners seeking to become mediators.
Both programs feature well-known, experienced mediators from Latin America and the U.S., as well as rising practitioners hoping to follow in their footsteps.
This event is open to INTA members and non-members and is free of charge.
The event will be limited to 100 registrants. Registration will close on December 14 or when we have reached capacity.
Agenda
December 15, 2021
SESSION 1: Getting Prepared to Solve International Conflicts (Part of the IP Dispute Resolution Talks)
Successful dispute resolution requires particularly refined skills when it comes to international and inter-cultural transactions and impasses, which can be common with disputes involving IP. For this reason, and because the global pandemic has launched a new communication paradigm, we are happy to host a series of conversations with both experienced and young professionals who are dedicated to ADR and IP to inspire you and share useful tips on better addressing cultural differences, psychological and emotional factors, and the use of digital tools to help solve complex conflicts.
Join us for the first of these conversations as our speakers discuss how to prepare to solve international conflicts, with a focus on important skills, inter-cultural knowledge, and more. (Future conversations will address online dispute resolution and the psychology of conflicts.)
Moderator: Donald Prutzman, Partner, Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP (USA)
Speakers:
- Francisco Diez, Senior Mediation Adviser for United Nations Peacemaker (Argentina)
- John P. McCormick, Associate, Fish & Richardson P.C. (USA)
