The Women’s LeadershIP Initiative has taken off since its inception in 2020 under the leadership of Ayala Deutsch, INTA’s 2020 President. The Initiative champions the development of strong leadership skills for all women in the intellectual property (IP) field to empower them to advance their careers to the next level. The importance of this Initiative is recognized by the Association and encapsulated in the second strategic direction of INTA’s 2022-2025 Strategic and Implementation Plan. Additionally, more than 20 INTA members from various regions, industries, and organizations are joining forces on a dedicated Project Team to continue to drive this Initiative forward for the Association.
This workshop aims to drive productive and pragmatic dialogue about how women grow and evolve in their leadership styles, learn methods to develop and shape those leadership styles over time, and effectively embrace learning and growth to advance in leadership roles throughout their IP careers. This workshop is open to everyone at all career levels and roles.
This workshop will be presented in two parts.

Leveling a Tilted Playing Field
Women increasingly are taking on leadership roles in different areas of the legal arena, and the contribution of female professionals across industries, including IP, is being recognized. Nonetheless, women continue to be underrepresented in senior positions at law firms and in corporate boards and C-suites.
In 2021, in conjunction with the first anniversary of The Women’s LeadershIP Initiative, INTA issued a Toolkit with recommended best practices for IP organizations interested in implementing strategies to foster advancement and leadership opportunities for women. One year later, a distinguished list of panelists will discuss steps taken in their respective organizations to address these issues – including representation at the workplace, career advancement, and work-life integration – and how the impact of these initiatives is measured. This panel is one of several activities of the Women’s LeadershIP Initiative that will continue to inform the evolution of the Toolkit.
