Global Data Protection Webinar Draws Large Privacy and Trademark Practitioner Audience

The effects of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) continue to emanate beyond the European Union, and trademark practitioners in the Americas have been heavily affected. The GDPR reaches into governments, companies, and technology communities worldwide and sets the stage for data privacy law globally. As such, INTA’s Data Protection Committee responded to practitioners’ need to gain familiarity and expertise in data privacy law and to incorporate it into their trademark, branding, and enforcement efforts by hosting a webinar, “Privacy and Goodwill: The New Risks and Rewards for Branding and Trust under the GDPR,” in collaboration with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Held on July 17, the webinar attracted more than 300 registrants from both IAPP’s and INTA’s memberships, demonstrating the importance of this topic to privacy and trademark professionals alike.

The moderator and panelists came from distinguished firms and practices in their respective fields in Europe and the Americas and are all members of INTA’s Data Protection and Internet Committees. Given their diverse backgrounds, each provided a unique perspective on developments in various jurisdictions affected by the GDPR and shared their latest insights on the effects of GDPR, on legislation and practice in Europe, North America, South America, and Switzerland, and on the Internet’s domain name system itself.
