INTA Holds High-Level Dialogue in Nigeria - International Trademark Association

During a recent visit to Nigeria for an examiners training, INTA Representative – Africa, Middle East and IGOs, Tat-Tienne Louembe, joined by Busola Bakinson and Wale Fajana from the law firm of Jackson Etti & Edu (Nigeria), paid a courtesy visit to the Rt. Honorable, Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The meeting, which took place on February 18 in Abuja, was an opportunity to present the Association and its policy positions-and its advocacy activities in Nigeria and globally-to the Nigerian government. INTA also touched on its expertise in engaging with lawmakers around the world, and the two parties discussed potential areas of cooperation involving Nigerian lawmakers.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives presented the priorities of the House, including the importance to be given to intellectual property. A Nigerian lawyer, Mr. Gbajabiamila was elected Speaker of the House (9th National Assembly) in June 2019. The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral National Assembly. The Senate is the upper chamber. The current House of Representatives, formed following elections held in June 2019, has a total of 360 members who are elected in single-member constituencies using the plurality system.

INTA Representative Tat-Tienne Louembe supports the Association’s 510 members across Africa and the Middle East.
