Seattle Annual Meeting Marks Largest-Ever Gathering of Trademark Professionals
Published: June 15, 2018
INTA’s 140th Annual Meeting drew 10,900+ registrants from more than 150 countries, including 2,674 first-time registrants, to Seattle, Washington, from May 18 to 23. This record attendance–up from 10,642 at the 2017 Annual Meeting–represents a milestone for INTA and also demonstrates the global trademark community’s increasing demand for education and information-sharing, as brands continue to expand into new jurisdictions and platforms.
A Rockin’ Opening
On May 20, INTA’s 2018 President Tish Berard (Hearts On Fire Company, LLC, USA), took an especially unique approach to welcoming registrants to Seattle. She emphasized that not everything-including the INTA President-is what it seems on the surface and that stepping outside of one’s traditional comfort zones can help to propel brands forward. See You in Boston and Singapore
The Opening Ceremonies included some important announcements from INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo, who officially told registrants that the Association will host its 2020 Annual Meeting in Singapore April 25-29, 2020 at the Marina Bay Sands. INTA’s Asia-Pacific Office opened in Singapore in March 2016 and has become “a seminal location for global trademark dialogue,” said Mr. Sanz de Acedo. He also reminded the audience to register for the 2019 Annual Meeting, which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Boston Convention Center May 18-22, 2019.
INTA Daily News
Each day of the Annual Meeting, INTA, in conjunction with World Intellectual Property Review (WIPR), published the INTA Daily News, the Association’s official conference newspaper, which included on-site reporting on the previous day’s sessions and events, previews of coming sessions, and photos from the Convention Center, as well as the many approved affiliate events held throughout Seattle each day.
