This session delivers the essentials of patent law for brand professionals, spotlighting foundational treaties - the Paris Convention, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), Patent Law Treaty (PLT), and TRIPS - and regional agreements such as USMCA, CETA, and MERCOSUR that set global standards. While territorial differences in patent protection and enforcement may vary in some respects, these treaties and agreements allow managers of IP portfolios to rely on a clear and consistent set of global and regional rules. We’ll also examine the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), which aims to streamline processes but faces real-world obstacles. Registrants will gain actionable strategies to navigate complex frameworks, harmonize global protection, and collaborate effectively with R&D and legal teams for IP success.
