Presented by the 2026-2027 Data Committee
With the emergence of frameworks like the EU Data Act and the Data Governance Act, the regulation of non-personal data especially data from connected devices has become increasingly relevant. This session will examine how jurisdictions around the world are regulating access to and use of such data and how this intersects with broader debates around data as an intangible asset. The session will cover the following topics:
- Comparative legal frameworks for non-personal data
- The role of brand owners in monetizing non-personal data
- Implications for connected devices and data-driven business models
- Whether data qualifies as an IP asset
