In Memoriam: Robert Hollweg

It is with great sadness that we announce INTA Past President Robert Hollweg passed away on April 3, 2024, at age 81. He was a longtime and highly respected leader within the intellectual property (IP) field and a distinguished member of the INTA community.

Mr. Hollweg earned both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from Fordham University in New York, New York, USA. In 1969, he joined Weight Watchers (USA) as an Assistant Counsel, beginning an impressive career with the company that spanned 37 years. He advanced to become General Counsel and Secretary of Weight Watchers International in 1998, holding this role until his retirement in 2006.

An active INTA member for several decades, Mr. Hollweg served as President from May 1994 to May 1995, and more recently served on the Panel of Trademark Mediators from 2007 to 2019 and the Nominating Committee in 2002. Mr. Hollweg also served on several other professional boards, including Fordham Law School; the Forum on Life, Culture & Society at Touro College; and the American and New York Bar Associations.

“I am thankful for Robert’s significant contributions and many years of service to INTA and the global IP community. He will be missed,” said INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo.

Mr. Hollweg will be remembered as a dedicated professional, an avid photographer, a devoted member of his church, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Irene, his sons Robert, Thomas (Gina), John (Marina), and Christopher (Angelica), and his nine grandchildren, Georgia, Irini, Alexandra, Thomas, Michael, Emma, Mirabelle, Andrew, and Evaline.
