Published: November 20, 2018
New York, New York—November 20, 2018—The International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce that Charles Russell Speechlys LLP, a law firm headquartered in London, United Kingdom, is the recipient of the 2018 Volunteer Service Award for Pro Bono Services Provided by Organizations.
INTA presents the award annually to one or more organizations that have demonstrated a significant commitment to developing or expanding programs for providing trademark and related intellectual property (IP) pro bono legal services during the year in support of persons of limited means or other disadvantaged persons; charitable, religious, civic, community, and educational organizations that address the needs of persons of limited means; or government or judicial organizations.
“Charles Russell Speechlys’ dedication to providing quality pro bono legal services is admirable and worthy of recognition,” said INTA President Tish Berard. “The firm’s ongoing commitment to actively assist those in need speaks volumes about their commitment to the IP field and to society at large.”
Charles Russell Speechlys has a long history of providing pro bono legal advice, including regularly providing legal advice and representation to local residents at the Legal Advice Centre in Bethnal Green and the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau, both in London. It assists with issues such as housing, employment, family law, and commercial law. In addition, the firm encourages its lawyers on an individual basis to take on pro bono cases related to IP.
In accepting the award on behalf of the firm, Kate O’Rourke, Senior Counsel at Charles Russell Speechlys and Vice Chair of INTA’s Pro Bono Committee, said, “We are delighted to have been recognized by INTA for the pro bono work that our lawyers do on a regular basis. Receiving this award will inspire many more lawyers to take on pro bono cases, and endorses the firm’s history of providing pro bono legal advice on a wide range of topics, affecting the local community and wider society. We very much support INTA’s initiatives in developing pro bono services, and look forward to working closely with INTA in the future.”
INTA presented the award to Charles Russell Speechlys during the annual award ceremony at INTA’s 2018 Leadership Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana in November.
