Call for INTA Officer, Board, and Committee Leader Nominations
Published: May 3, 2023
All current leaders and active volunteers can now help INTA’s Nominating Committee identify the Association’s future volunteer leaders by submitting your nominations.
Those eligible to submit nominations include our most engaged members, namely, Board Members; Committee Members; DEI Council, Global Advisory Council, Program Advisory Council, and Research Advisory Council participants; Past Presidents and Past Counsel; and INTA staff.
All members eligible to submit nominations were sent an email with a call for nominations and may submit multiple candidates. They can even self-nominate. This year, the call for nominations launched April 19 and will remain open through May 31, 2023.
The Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the following:
- INTA Officers (President Elect, Vice President(s), Treasurer, and Secretary), serving a one-year term commencing January 1, 2024;
- INTA Counsel, serving a one-year term commencing January 1, 2024;
- INTA Board of Directors, serving a three-year term commencing January 1, 2024; and
- INTA Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs for all committees, serving a two-year term commencing January 1, 2024.
When considering your nominations, please keep in mind that one of INTA’s greatest strengths is the diversity of its volunteer leaders. We value and seek diverse leadership as defined by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, geographic location, industry, professional/experience level, etc.
You can recommend more than one individual for each available leadership position. You can even submit your own name for consideration. When submitting nominations, whether for yourself or someone else, please share with us how candidates will contribute to our diverse leadership.
The Nominating Committee has developed general criteria for you to consider when proposing nominees. Nominees should demonstrate the following qualities:
- Strategic focus and an interest in a culture of learning, self-assessment, and accountability;
- Depth of knowledge in trademark law and complementary intellectual property;
- Appreciation of the issues facing INTA, including priorities in our Strategic Plan;
- Commitment to INTA by regular meeting attendance, including assigned committee meetings, and timely completion of substantive tasks with high quality work product; and
- Strong leadership, with the ability to serve as role models for other INTA volunteers.
Board of Director Nominations
The Nominating Committee welcomes nominations from all qualified members. For the 2024‒2026 Board Term, the Committee is seeking corporate members from various jurisdictions and regions, including Africa, India, and Latin America. The Nominating Committee is also seeking representatives from emerging technology sectors, with specializations in NFTs and AI, as well as young and early-career practitioners who exhibit strategic thinking and leadership qualities, who will bring their unique perspectives to the Board.
Committee Chair and Vice-Chair Nominations
Typically, the current vice chair of a committee moves up to the chair position and the new vice chair is someone who currently serves on the committee. Therefore, the Nominating Committee closely considers nominations by the current leadership of a committee and looks to see whether the current chair, vice chair, and staff liaison have submitted nominations for these same individuals as incoming leadership. If there are inconsistencies, the Committee contacts the staff liaison, and her/his nomination is weighed heavily in making the final selections.
New for the 2024–2025 Committee Term is the addition of a Trade Secrets Committee in the Advocacy Group. The description of this and all committees can be read here.
Thank you to all of you who take the time to identify our future leaders by submitting nominations.
