INTA Hosts Roundtable to Share Findings from ICANN86 Policy Forum
Published: July 13, 2020
More than 60 INTA members participated in an Association-hosted virtual roundtable on July 8 that summarized the recent Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 68 Policy Forum as well as the engagement of INTA’s Internet Committee, Digital Asia Subcommittee in work related to policy development at ICANN.
Lori Shulman, INTA’s Senior Director of Internet Policy, moderated the discussion and shared her observations and the tangible outcomes of ICANN68. The forum was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in late June.
“The Internet Committee has traditionally focused on issues at the macro or global level. This is the first term where we are focusing on a specific region in order to foster longer-term interest and engagement in Internet governance,” said Ms. Schulman.
As part of the discussion, Ding Xianjie (King & Wood Mallesons LLP, Shanghai, China), Chair, INTA’s Digital Asia Subcommittee, Internet Committee, gave an overview of the Subcommittee’s work and accomplishments thus far in the 2020–2021 term.
In addition, Heather Forrest, Associate Professor, University of Tasmania, and President, Intellectual Property Constituency of ICANN, provided a practical guide on coping with an increasingly complex digital landscape. Seth Hays, INTA’s Chief Representative, Asia-Pacific Office, showcased the virtual platform for INTA’s upcoming 2020 Annual Meeting & Leadership Meeting in November.
Noting that the event was well attended, Ms. Shulman said the roundtable is “a first in what we hope will be more discussions focused on the Asia-Pacific region.”
