INTA Participates in World Football Summit

Published: October 19, 2022

The football industry’s leading stakeholders gathered in Seville, Spain, on September 28 and 29, for the 2022 World Football Summit (WFS) to discuss and shape the future of the game and business. For the first time, INTA sent a delegation to participate in the event.

As part of the delegation, INTA hosted the session titled “How to Increase the Monetization of Your Club’s Brands.” The panel presentation was designed to show how closely intellectual property (IP) and the sports sector are connected. INTA members participating on the panel included:

  • Anna Guix (FC Barcelona, Spain) underscored the crucial role of IP in merchandising.
  • Daniel Zohny (Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Switzerland) discussed enforcement and anticounterfeiting.
  • Nigel King (Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore) spoke about IP and sponsorships.
  • Tanya Fickenscher (Major League Baseball, USA) emphasized the need for clubs to secure IP protection as the basis of commercialization efforts.
  • Allison Rothman (Morrison Rothman LLP, USA) covered disruptive phenomena such as eSports and NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
  • Lorenzo Litta (BrandIT GmbH, Switzerland) moderated the session.

During the delegation, INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo sat down for a conversation with WFS Digest. Here’s the full interview.

Thanks to its collaborative members and their efforts and dedication, INTA has raised the profile of IP in the football world … and scored a goal against IP infringers operating in the sports industry!
