INTA Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting India’s IP Ecosystem During Delegation Visit

Published: April 19, 2023

INTA returned to India for its 10th Annual Delegation visit last month. Through the many meetings, interactions, and receptions, the Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the advancement of a robust and balanced intellectual property (IP) ecosystem in the country.

During their visit, INTA 2023 President Jomarie Fredericks and INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo attended receptions, interacted with members, and had fruitful meetings with members of the country’s forward-thinking judiciary as well as visionary policymakers and officials.

Among the key government meetings, the delegation met with Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, and Hemang Jani, Secretary of India’s Capacity Building Commission, Vivek Johri, Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, Vinamra Mishra from the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), and senior officials of India’s IP Office led by Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs & Head of Office, Dinesh Patil. A recurring theme emphasized during the meetings was the acknowledgment of the profound and far-reaching changes witnessed within India’s IP ecosystem, with a commitment from INTA to extend its support towards the country’s ongoing and future IP initiatives.

The delegation also had the invaluable opportunity to observe legal proceedings in the Delhi High Court’s Intellectual Property Division, India’s first specialized IP court.

Interspersed with these official meetings and engagements, the delegation also made sure to interact with INTA’s members in the country. Ms. Fredericks and Mr. Sanz de Acedo participated in Pre–Annual Meeting Receptions hosted by Anand and Anand in Delhi and Khaitan & Co. in Mumbai and met with members of the India Global Advisory Council.

INTA would like to thank its members in India for their unwavering dedication to the Association and for being instrumental in strengthening and expanding INTA’s presence, not only within India, but also across the region. The delegation looks forward to returning next year and further enriching their engagement with IP stakeholders and members in India.
