The July 2023 Issue of the China Bulletin Is Now Available!

The second issue of the China Bulletin for 2023 highlights some of the Association’s major announcements, achievements, and advocacy efforts from the past few months:

Intellectual property (IP) offices have faced significant challenges in the post-pandemic era, which has led to significant changes in the practice of IP protection. Hamano Koichi, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), shares his thoughts on what it will take to transform IP in a recent podcast interview. INTA’s new Chief Policy Officer, Heather Steinmeyer, discusses her transition from INTA volunteer to staff member, shares her thoughts on how critical challenges can become opportunity drivers for the IP community, and reflects on the role mentorship has played in her career.

In Europe, a court favors trademark owner over use in an online marketplace case, the Court of Appeal in the United Kingdom clarifies acquiescence requirements, and the UK Intellectual Property Office issues new rules regarding address for service in contentious proceedings.

In the United States, trademark complaints can be served on foreign defendants through the USPTO and the TTAB dismisses DC Comics’ opposition and allegation in a dilution case and refuses to give the famous marks broader protection than necessary.
