Chicago Attorney Receives International Trademark Association Service Award for Pro Bono Work

Published: November 20, 2019

New York, New York, November 20, 2019—The International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce Alice Kelly, Partner at Ice Miller LLP of Chicago, Illinois, as a recipient of the Association’s 2019 Service Award for INTA Members for a Better Society.
The award is a newly created honor that will be presented annually to one or more individuals of an INTA member organization who have demonstrated during the year how brands positively impact society and build consumer trust through initiatives relating to corporate social responsibility, diversity and inclusion, or pro bono legal services.

Ms. Kelly has been an advocate for pro bono services throughout her career, and in addition to her own pro bono work, she has engaged in multiple initiatives to further INTA’s efforts to assist those in need. Leading the Association’s Pro Bono Committee’s Communications Subcommittee, she has diligently promoted INTA’s Pro Bono Trademark Clearinghouse, including assisting several pro bono clients and running a Pro Bono Clinic at INTA’s 2019 Annual Meeting.

“Ms. Kelly has been at the forefront of efforts to provide pro bono services, and, in doing so, has emphasized the value of trademark registration and enforcement,” said INTA President David Lossignol. “Her tremendous enthusiasm, dedication, and desire to give back has, without a doubt, helped to better society and protect brands.”

In accepting the commendation, Ms. Kelly said, “I have always devoted time from my practice to pro bono efforts and prior to the creation of the Clearinghouse of the Pro Bono Committee, found little outlet for these efforts in the trademark world. I am honored to be part of the Pro Bono Committee and for our efforts to be recognized.”

Ms. Kelly has a B.A. in English Literature from St. Louis University. Prior to joining Ice Miller, she practiced with global law firms DLA Piper and Bryan Cave, and she ran her own firm for seven years.

INTA presented Ms. Kelly with the 2019 Service Award for INTA Members for a Better Society on November 19 during the Association’s 2019 Leadership Meeting in Austin, Texas. The Association also presented the award to Peter Dernbach, Partner at Winkler Partners, Taipei, Taiwan.
