Published: November 15, 2022
New York, New York—November 15, 2023—The International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce the election of Jomarie Fredericks as the 2023 President of the Association and the Chair of its Board of Directors.
Ms. Fredericks is Deputy General Counsel, Chief Intellectual Property and Brand Counsel at Rotary International, the association that supports the work of Rotary’s 46,000 clubs and The Rotary Foundation, which helps clubs perform meaningful and impactful service to improve lives and strengthen communities throughout the world. In this role, Ms. Fredericks leads a team of experienced professionals who are responsible for all trademark, copyright, licensing, and domain name work for Rotary International, globally. She is based in Evanston, Illinois, USA.
Ms. Fredericks will assume her one-year term on January 1, 2023, succeeding Zeeger Vink, Intellectual Property Director at MF Brands Group, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Vink convened a Presidential Task Force on IP Reporting for Brands, oversaw the publication INTA’s Report on the Taxation of Trademarks and Complementary Rights in Europe, and led the Association as it hosted the first in-person Annual Meeting in two years, in Washington, D.C., USA, in May 2022.
Ms. Fredericks has expressed that she is looking forward to more opportunities for collaboration in the new year. Having attended her first INTA Annual Meeting in 1997 in San Antonio, Texas, USA, and been a member of the INTA Board of Directors since January 2014, she has expressed her admiration for the “rich talent pool at INTA.” She has stood by the strong conviction that “time volunteered to INTA will come back to you tenfold. It’s a great organization and I am honored to serve as the 2023 President.”
INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo emphasized his gratitude for Ms. Fredericks’ contributions to the Association, noting that “Jomarie’s commitment to INTA has been demonstrated many times over and she has been a great advocate for international cooperation in intellectual property for more than two decades.”
Prior to joining Rotary International, Ms. Fredericks worked in private practice with law firms in Chicago, Illinois, USA, where she practiced in trademark, copyright, libel, privacy, commercial, and First Amendment litigation, with an emphasis on libel defense and media law.
Ms. Fredericks holds an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, where she now serves on its Advisory Board, a J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and an M.S. and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
With INTA, Ms. Fredericks currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board and is Chair of the Planning Committee. During her tenure as an Association volunteer, she has also served on the In-House Practitioners Committee, Legislation and Regulations Committee, and the Public and Media Relations Committee.
The Board elected Ms. Fredericks and the 2023 INTA Officers during its quarterly Board meeting, held on November 15, during the Association’s 2022 Leadership Meeting in Miami, Florida, USA. With more than 1,600 registrants, this is the largest Leadership Meeting in the Association’s history. The Meeting will conclude on November 18.
The 2023 Officers are:
- President: Jomarie Fredericks (Rotary International, USA)
- President Elect: Dana Northcott (Amazon.com, Inc., USA)
- Vice President: Elisabeth Bradley (Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, USA)
- Vice President: Deborah Hampton (The Chemours Company FC, LLC, USA)
- Treasurer: Louis Chan (UL International, Singapore)
- Secretary: Daniel Zohny (Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Switzerland)
Mr. Sanz de Acedo expressed his confidence in this diverse team, nominated to lead INTA in 2023, and is looking forward to a productive year ahead.
