International Trademark Association Unveils Unique Podcast Focusing on Innovation and Intellectual Property

New York, New York – November 20, 2018 –The International Trademark Association (INTA) recently unveiled Brand & New, a first-of-its-kind podcast produced by INTA which focuses on the impact of innovation on intellectual property (IP) and other aspects of business.

Every two weeks, on Tuesday, Brand & New gives the floor to inspiring and influential individuals from all over the world to help brand owners, IP lawyers, marketing and finance professionals, and others stay curious and agile in an ever-evolving business environment. Guests will share their perspectives and tips on overarching trends, including how innovation disrupts IP—and vice versa, and how businesses and law practices need to keep up with innovation to remain competitive and to fulfill the needs of tomorrow’s clients.

Audrey Dauvet, an award-winning in-house and external counsel specializing in IP, is the host of this free podcast. It is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Stitcher.

Brand & New made its debut on November 6, with an introductory episode featuring an interview with Tish Berard, INTA’s 2018 President. In the second episode, airing on November 20, Stéphane Lemarchand, Partner, Global Co-Chair, Intellectual Property and Technology Group, DLA Piper France LLP, Paris, France, will discuss, “Embrace the Future: How Technology Is Transforming Legal Practice.”

In the introductory episode, Ms. Berard noted that the new series mirrors one of the pillars of INTA’s 2018–2021 Strategic Plan—to embrace innovation and change—and “fits perfectly in line with our mission to help promote active community learning, and to share our passion for and interconnections between innovation and IP law.”

Ms. Berard pointed out that legal professionals must “recognize and leverage” the opportunities posed by innovation. “First, we need to stay aware of what’s happening innovation-wise that can affect both our clients’ interests in relation to the protection of their IP and the legal doctrines and concepts we use and rely on a daily basis,” she said. “Secondly, innovation also creates opportunities to rethink and evolve the way we serve our clients.”

In the latest interview, Mr. Lemarchand, who co-leads a global team of more than 550 experts, will share his experiences of the way the legal and IP ecosystems interact with technology, and why practitioners must embrace technology sooner rather than later “to remain relevant and efficient.”

Future guests will include an eminent law professor at New York University, who will discuss how new technologies—such as computer-generated music—continuously challenge our perspective on traditional legal concepts; directors of  IP offices  in Asia and Latin America, who will share their visions of the offices’ future; leadership coaches from Harvard Business School, who will address the importance of soft skills as a response to technology; and influential IP lawyers in India and Japan, who will explore the impact of artificial intelligence on their business and the local environment.

According to Ms. Dauvet, “We want Brand & New to not only provide listeners with new insights, but, moreover, to prompt creative thinking and to spark conversation. Everyone should be part of the ‘innovation’ dialogue.”
