2021 Presidential Task Force Report—Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Published: November 16, 2022
A confluence of factors led to the formation of INTA’s Presidential Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The year before, the Association’s focus on DEI gained momentum with the launch of The Women’s LeadershIP Initiative, which aims to foster the development of leadership skills for women in the intellectual property field and support their professional advancement. In the same year, the world witnessed the murder of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event sparked a global movement against discrimination in all forms and demand for DEI in all aspects of life.
Against this backdrop, 2021 President Tiki Dare convened this Task Force to analyze INTA’s current status and footprint in the DEI space and provide strategic recommendations on how the Association might improve and expand its DEI efforts and outreach going forward.
Guided in its work by INTA’s 2022–2025 Strategic Plan—and specifically the call for Association to demonstrate its own long-term commitment by creating and monitoring measures of representation at all levels of Association participation—the Task Force conducted extensive research and discussions with numerous segments of INTA and beyond.
Based on those discussions and feedback, the Task Force arrived at 11 recommendations for the Association, which are presented in this report.
