Leadership Meeting Program Presents an Enriching ‘Must’ for Committee Members

Published: August 19, 2020

As INTA presents its first-ever combined Annual Meeting and Leadership Meeting this November, the Leadership Meeting portion of the 10-day virtual event will offer the opportunity to reconnect with other committee members and to garner tools and knowledge that can help advance members’ professional and volunteer roles.

“A huge amount of planning, finalizing work product, and checking in on the work of the committee and meeting the objectives is accomplished at the Annual Meeting & Leadership Meeting. It’s really important if you’re going to have an engaged, participatory role with the committees to attend,” INTA President Ayala Deutsch (NBA Properties Inc., New York, New York, USA) said in a video interview.

Beyond that, she said, “The Annual Meeting & Leadership Meeting is much more than meeting objectives of the Association and committee objectives, both in terms of the expectations and in terms of what you can get out of it.”

Committee meetings take place November 10‒12. The Leadership Meeting programming occurs on November 13. And the Annual Meeting follows on November 16‒20.

As always, committee meetings will be an essential component of the program, so that members can get together and further work toward objectives as they near the halfway mark of the 2020‒2021 term. Sessions on leadership skills and professional development—on November 13—will stand out as well. Another highlight of every Leadership Meeting is the presentation of the President’s Award and INTA Service Awards—and, again, the 2020 event will include this.

But this year, the schedule goes even further—offering myriad networking and business development opportunities. Beginning a day earlier, on the Monday of “Leadership Meeting” week, the offerings feature three days (November 9‒11) of Corporate Meetings, for corporates to meet with external counsel; and, from November 9 through November 20, the schedule includes 15 Corporate Meet-Ups, 150 Speed Networking sessions, and 155 Table Topics, with 37 of them being Corporate Member Table Topics.

During the Leadership Meeting program (November 13), INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo, Ms. Deutsch, and Meeting Co-Chairs Lisa Ritchie (Philip Morris Products S.A, Switzerland) and Laura Ganoza (Foley & Lardner LLP, USA) will address members.

The LEAD session will focus on “Leadership Through Crisis.” Also timely, panels will explore “Keeping the Band Together—Best Tips to Retain Top Talent in a Competitive Marketplace,” and “Leadership at Your Level”—ways to exercise leadership by learning to “see strengths, mobilize a team, achieve goals, and create an environment of innovation and collaboration.”

In addition, the Association is bringing back interactive favorites: INTA Leadership Bootcamp, which this year will focus on diversity and inclusion, and Leadership Labs, which involve candid conversations with committees and subcommittee leaders and sharing experiences with colleagues. Both are repeated during the day, each with limited attendance by invitation only.

The robust educational sessions continue the next week, during the Annual Meeting. The program spans 12 subject tracks and includes capsule keynotes, panels, workshops, and Town Halls.
