INTA Participates in World IP Day Celebrations Around the Globe
World IP Day takes place every year on April 26, raising awareness of the positive role of intellectual property (IP) in society and in the daily lives of consumers, and celebrating IP as a driver of innovation, creativity, and economic development. The theme of this year’s celebration was “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.” It looked at the ways in which IP is advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). INTA took part in several events around the globe in honor of World IP Day:
Asia-Pacific
On April 26, Walter Chia, INTA’s Chief Representative Officer for the Asia-Pacific, attended a virtual ceremony hosted by the IP Office of Singapore (IPOS). The event featured a series of videos created by IPOS in partnership with several social media influencers to promote IP’s role in advancing the SDGs.
China
INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo recorded video remarks which were played at the Global Forum on IP Protection and Innovation held on April 25, as part of the Zhongguancun (ZGC) Forum in Beijing, China. Monica Su, INTA’s Chief Representative Officer, China, attended the event in person.
The forum was hosted by the Beijing Municipality, WIPO, and the Zhongguancun Development Group. Experts from around the world were invited to share their experiences and insights on the latest trends, topics, and challenges within the IP community, including regional coordination and sustainable development.
Latin America
INTA’s Latin America and the Caribbean Office and Mercado Libre hosted an event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 29 to celebrate World IP Day. The event featured two panels: “The Role of IP for a Sustainable Future,” and “The Approach to Trademark Infringements by the Argentinian Justice System.” During the event, Carolina Belmar, INTA’s Chief Representative Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean, spoke about the Association’s priorities at the global and regional level.
North America
On May 1, the day of this article’s publication, in honor of World IP Day, INTA will sponsor an event at the U.S. Capitol titled “IP and the SDGs: IP as a Solution.” The event will include remarks from several members of the U.S. Congress, and two panel discussions featuring government officials, business leaders, and IP experts. Jenny Simmons, INTA’s Associate Senior Director, Government Affairs, will moderate a panel discussion titled “IP as a Solution to Achieve SDGs—Education, Diversity, Access” alongside Steve Caltrider, Chair, American Bar Association IP Law Section.
